Local charities and not-for-profits who are feeling lost or overwhelmed in the digital world will soon find the help they need, thanks to partners Socialink and Venture Centre, with technology consultant Bryan Winters.
There are just 10 spots available in a pilot group on the Digital Technology Programme, which will help local not-for-profits to improve their digital skills, assets, and infrastructure. The programme will assess needs and co-ordinate willing local expertise to assist.
Socialink’s Kathy Webb says charities and not-for-profits in the Bay have asked for help improving their digital communications, fundraising, and digital infrastructure.

Venture Centre co-founder Jo Allum says they’ve been aware of social sector digital needs for some time. “It’s great to bring our expertise and connections to this effort. The Digital Technology Programme will give the first group a jump start, and create a blueprint for us and them to move forward with.”
With more than three decades of international IT experience, Winters is implementing technologies in a Bay of Plenty not-for-profit already. “It’s challenging getting a business on the correct digital path, let alone a charity with few financial resources,” he says.
“Working with these partners, and a pilot group of charities will give us a road map for future digital endeavours in the social sector.”
Applications are open now and the programme will run until March 31, 2019, Winters says.
“We need that timeframe to thoroughly understand their needs, and to organise and implement solutions. This is more than giving advice, this is plugging in the right digital technologies to achieve the desired outcomes.”
The project is also supported by Information Technology Professionals New Zealand (ITP), which is New Zealand’s official body acting for the digital sector.
Applications for the Digital Technology Programme close on May 18. Roundtable discussions with the 10 chosen charities will take place during Techweek Tauranga, from May 21-25.
